fun with fossils

Well my husband and I went scouting for fossils at the North Sulfur River again this past Friday, didn't find a whole lot, but had a great time. The weather was perfect! I did however find a really nice piece of Mosasaur jaw bone, it has to partial teeth and a small tooth cavity where you can see the tip of a third tooth exposed. When I first saw it I thought it was just another piece of petrified wood, but when I picked it up and turned it over boy did I get excited! I love the NSR!!! Found a couple of really nice sharks teeth as well. Some friends that joined us found some nice fish verts and my husband found a very nice, very small fish vert. All in all it was a great day, spent about 5 hours out there combing that river. Sure wish it'd get a good rain and was some more stuff out. It is just covered in the grey silt right now but I'd go back tomorrow if I could. Sure wish I could win the lottery and move closer to the river. :). Happy hunting everyone.

I don't want to talk news today, lets talk about what makes us happy. For me it's being with my husband and doing the things we enjoy most. One of those things is fossil hunting and we this on a regular basis. Our favorite place to hunt is at the North Sulphur River in Ladonia, TX. We have found vertebrae of fish, and mosasuars and sharks teeth, and jaw bones of a big ugly fish that I cannot pronounce or spell. :). These fossils are 65-90 million years old.

We also go looking for ammonites and other fossils around Lake Worth, TX in the Duck Creek Formation.
